Yasir Naqvi went unopposed Thursday night and was nominated again as the Ontario Liberal candidate for Ottawa Centre.
The MPP, who was first elected in 2007, was appointed parliamentary assistant to the minister of education in 2008.
Naqvi says he is proud of the investments he has already been involved with in Centretown as MPP, such as affordable housing for the neighbourhood at Beaver Barracks, and the renovations made to the YMCA on Argyle Avenue.
“What I want to continue doing is ensure that we are building a sustainable community,” Naqvi says. “Centretown is downtown, there is a lot of density, and we need to make sure that those in the community have all the necessary services available to them in the neighbourhood.”
Naqvi said should he be re-elected, he is looking forward to working with the Ottawa Centre city councillors and citizens to give everyone the opportunity to live in a sustainable fashion.
“We want the community to be safe for everyone to live, make sure there is good transportation and more green spaces,” he says. “I want to continue working and make sure those core services continue.”
The next provincial election is scheduled for Oct. 6, 2011.
