Planning committee approves condos

City council’s planning committee today approved two controversial development projects in Centretown.

Over the objections of the Ottawa built heritage advisory committee, councilors gave the green-light to a proposal to build a nine-storey condominium at 340 McLeod St. as originally recommended by city staff.

The heritage committee had recommended that the staff report be rejected. However, the planning committee ignored the heritage body’s objections.

The condo is part of a three-phase development.
The committee also approved a development at 70 Gloucester St. subject to a zoning bylaw amendment.

Both recommendations will be considered by the full council on June 8.
