Peace Tower Church has been at 343 Bronson Ave. for more than 100 years. Built in 1901 of light grey stones, this regal building has enough seating in its pews for about 1,100 people, facing a large pipe organ and raised, semi-circle altar.
Much like a theatre, the church has balconies on either side facing inwards and hugging the altar, which is set on a platform. A traditional pipe organ is arranged along the wall behind the altar, with modern screens adorning either side.
The inviting set up of curved seating arrangements surround a central point, helping this church feel more comfortable than standard rows and a conventional church setting. The church itself is built so that upon entering, you are a part of a community welcomed by hand-carved pews and an Elders Council. This council works with the pastors to help lead their community.
The church’s community expands far beyond the comfortable walls of their historic building. Church members take part in missions reaching out to not only those in Ottawa, but also in communities in countries around the world, such as Kenya, Uganda, and Haiti.
Even though the church is more than 100 years old, the pastors and congregation worship in fairly modern ways. Live music extends past traditional organ accompaniment to include a full band of guitar, drums, and keyboards. Audio messages are also posted on their website every Sunday.
