City council today approved the application for a new condominium project on 340 McLeod St. and funding for the Laurier Avenue ice surface.
The new nine-storey condo will be built in two parts, forming an “L-shaped structure,” according to reports released by the City.
The first part, Central 1 “has incorporated the façade of the Metropolitan Bible Chapel, across McLeod (Street) to the north,” where as Central 2 will face Bank Street, located on the south side of McLeod Street.
Notably absent was Somserset Councillor Diane Holmes, who was unable to attend the meeting, sending regrets. Many controversial condo applications in Ottawa-Centre have been approved by council in the last year, which Holmes has spoken out publicly against.
The project passed unanimously at council.
Council also approved a motion for one-time funding to the tune of $250,000 to contribute to the City’s $1.25 million project for a new ice surface on the Marion Dewar Plaza.
The Sens Foundation is raising one million dollars towards the project, dubbed the Rink of Dreams.
Another $200,000 will be included annually in the City’s operation budget for maintenance and operation costs for the 12,500 square foot surface.
Marion Dewar Plaza is located at 110 Laurier Avenue, adjacent to Ottawa City Hall.
