Unidentified salespeople, falsely identifying themselves as City of Ottawa employees, have reportedly been approaching residents’ homes, says a police media release.
According to the report, these people are asking to come into people’s houses to do water quality tests – a check the City does not currently have representatives performing door-to-door.
City visits that require entrance into a residence must be scheduled in advance unless it’s an emergency. Employees are also required to show city-issued photo identification.
Police are asking residents to check identification if approached by someone claiming to be a city employee and to call 3-1-1 if they’re concerned before allowing anyone access into their homes.
