Two Centretown residents have received an award for making a difference in the lives of people living with a disability in Ottawa.
These awards are presented to 13 people or organizations at the 11th annual Celebration of People Awards on Dec. 1.
Randy Romain, the first Centretown recipient, received the citizenship award in memory of Cathy Kerr.
This award recognizes a member of the community with a disability who demonstrates excellent citizenship through community service and civic engagement, according to a press release on the event.
Romain was given this award because of his involvement as a volunteer with multiple organizations, such as the Canadian Paraplegic Association Ontario.
Anna Coulombe, an artist at H’Art of Ottawa on Bronson Avenue, received the youth award in memory of Susan Meyer.
Given in recognition of a youth with a disability who demonstrates perseverance in achieving a goal or helping others, Coulombe was given this award because of success with her art.
A painter, writer, dancer and singer, Coulombe has used these creative outlets to grow her confidence and communication skills.
She also uses the revenue from her sales to help other H’Art artists and volunteers in the community.
