City of Ottawa staff announced Jan. 31 that water rates will increase by six per cent this year.
That means the average household will pay an extra $37.82 for water service this year.
Rates will increase by seven per cent in 2013 and 2014 and five per cent every year thereafter.
The city’s environment committee received a higher than expected financial forecast during its meeting this morning.
