Ottawa Neighbourhood Services is a non-profit organization that seeks to provide the community with clothes, furniture and other essentials at a low cost.
Founded in 1932 by Harold M. Mayfield, ONS relies on the donations from the community to continue their work. Some donations are resold in their retail space while others given away for free to those who need it the most. While ONS prepares to celebrate their 80th anniversary, they also have problems of their own such as high rent costs, dwindling volunteer base and other organizations outside of Ottawa taking away from their donations. Centretown News spoke to ONS president Patricia Lemieux, philanthropist and honorary president Dave Smith and volunteer Sally Albert to learn more.
