Temperatures plummet with extended wind chill

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning of a cold snap with an extended wind chill on Sunday.

Strong winds of 30 to 50 kilometres per hour will drop wind chill values to the -20 to -25 range. Sunday’s temperature will peak at -8 C.

A wind chill warning is typically issued when temperatures drop below -35 C. Environment Canada issued Sunday’s warning because it’s the season’s first extended wind chill with a significant temperature drop.

Historically, Ottawa temperatures hover between 2 C and -5 C. The lowest temperature recorded on November 24 was in 1995 when it hit -15 C.
