Ottawa Fire Services has deemed two Gilmour Street buildings uninhabitable after they were ravaged by fire earlier this month.
A demolition order will be issued for the buildings at 544 and 546 Gilmour St. as soon as the owner of the buildings can be contacted, says Marc Messier, public information officer for Ottawa Fire Services. The owner is currently out of the country.
The building at 540 Gilmour St. was also damaged but has not been deemed uninhabitable.
The fire on Jan. 12 started after a burning candle was left unattended in an apartment at 546 Gilmour St. Between 12 and 15 residents are still displaced.
Total damages from the fire are estimated at $1.88 million, Messier says.
