Map continues historical tradition

Bank Street financial firm Alterna Savings and local marketing agency JackPine have collaborated to create a hand-drawn map of Centretown, part of Alterna’s effort to cement bonds with the community following a merger with the Ottawa Women’s Credit Union.

The map shows the location of Alterna and encompasses most of Centretown, mapping everything between Bronson Avenue and the Rideau Canal. The creation is displayed in Alterna’s window.

After Alterna and the credit union joined forces late last year, the company tried to continue to reflect the long, rich history that the credit union has in Centretown.

The marketing department at Alterna tried to find a way to do so and worked together with JackPine, which came up with the idea of the map.

“The map is intended to capture the uniqueness of the neighbourhood and to show how it all works together to form a community – a neighbourhood teaming of sorts,” says Pamela Stewart, Alterna’s chief of the marketing.

“We believe the map captures an interesting mix of places, spaces and transformation.”

Stewart  says the vintage look of the map is also meant to speak to the long history that the Ottawa Women’s Credit Union has in the area.
