Mayor Jim Watson officially launched his re-election bid this morning at Ben Franklin Place.
Yesterday Watson teased the announcement on Twitter and Facebook, inviting Ottawa residents to check his Facebook page for “important news” at 5 p.m.
He signed the re-election papers this morning to begin his campaign.
Watson’s current term began in 2010 with a win against incumbent Larry O’Brien, marking his second non-consecutive term as the city’s mayor.
His previous term in office was from 1997 to 2000, before Ottawa’s neighbouring communities were amalgamated into one legal unit.
Watson said he’ll be releasing his platform as the campaign progresses towards the next municipal election on Oct. 27, 2014.
