As it finally starts to feel like spring in Ottawa, there’s still one place where skating enthusiasts can go to enjoy a skate outside.
The Rink of Dreams, located outside city hall, opened for the season on Nov. 25. It was only expected to be open until last month, but prolonged cold spells have allowed staff to keep it open.
Mayor Jim Watson said on Twitter that this marks Ottawa's longest skating season.
The rink is designed to remain open as long as the temperature outside stays around 10 C.
The rink, which is run by the Sens Foundation, Hockey Canada and the City of Ottawa, was officially opened at a ceremony on Jan. 25, 2012 by Watson and several members of the Ottawa Senators franchise.
At 12,500 sq. ft., the Rink of Dreams is one of the largest outdoor skating rinks in the city.
In its first season almost 60,000 skaters enjoyed the rink between Nov. 30, 2012 and March 31, 2013.
