Ottawa police will maintain its increased presence in Centretown for a few more days it conducts its ongoing investigation into Wednesday’s shooting incidents at the National War Memorial and Parliament Hill, Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau said in a joint press conference with the RCMP this afternoon.
The National War Memorial remains closed to the public, but will re-open soon, Bordeleau said.
Closures on Elgin Street between Albert Street and Wellington Street remain in effect, tweeted Ottawa Traffic.
RCMP forces will also be present downtown for the remainder of the investigation, said RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson.
“Ottawa is a safe city,” said Bordeleau. “To keep our city safe, we have to have a strong partnership with the RCMP.”
