A team of four curlers from Centretown’s Ottawa Curling Club won the bronze medal Saturday at the 2015 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in North Bay.
The Ottawa rink defeated the team from British Columbia 9-2 to finish the tournament with an impressive 9-3 won-lost record. The team, which represented Ontario at the national championship, was comprised of Chris Gardner (skip), Trish Hill (vice), Jonathan Beuk (second) and Jessica Barcauskas (lead).
The tournament started on Nov. 10 with team Ontario defeating Nunavut and P.E.I. 9-1 and 8-5 respectively. Tuesday was more of the same for Team Ontario as they defeated Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador before concluding their round-robin play Wednesday by defeating Northern Ontario and Saskatchewan.
With a perfect 6-0 record after preliminary play, Team Ontario advanced to the semi-finals Saturday morning against the North West Territories but was defeated 7-3. The Ottawa rink played later that day against B.C. for the bronze, winning by a wide margin. .
Saskatchewan claimed the gold medal over the North West Territories in the tournament final to earn the opportunity to represent Canada at next year’s World Mixed Championship.
