LGBT community, Bank Street BIA aiming to save Capital Pride festival

Members of Ottawa’s LGBT community and the Bank Street BIA have partnered to rescue the now-bankrupt Capital Pride festival.

The partnership with the BIA would provide Capital Pride with “financial oversight of the event,” said Christine Leadman, the BIA’s executive director. She added that the BIA would not participate in any creative task.

Representatives from the LGBT community and the Bank Street BIA disclosed details for a 2015 festival in a press conference Thursday at Ottawa City Hall. The proposal did not go over many aspects regarding the festival itself, but instead focused on the dynamics of the partnership.

“At this stage, we still need to meet with city representatives to discuss the proposal,” said Leadman. “It’s all about the proposal and making sure the funding and the sponsors are in place.”
