Ottawa police have charged two men with assaulting police officers in the Byward Market late last evening.
Carl Bernarde, 22, and Elvin Musonge, 24, were arrested after a confrontation, which took place at the intersection of William Street and York Street around midnight on Sept. 11.
According to a news release by the Ottawa Police, a man stepped into the street in front of a marked police car and refused to move when asked. The officer approached the man, and then reports being assaulted.
According to the release, “during the struggle to apprehend the suspect, a group of passersby entered the crime scene, when ordered not to by police. A male from this group was subsequently arrested for uttering threats and obstructing police.”
A total of 11 charges were laid, including assault on a police officer, uttering threats, obstructing police and resisting arrest. Both men will later appear in court.
