The Centretown Community Health Centre has released its programs and services booklet, outlining its list of all free activities for the fall and winter.
The extensive list of workshops, classes and drop-ins is offered free of charge to Ottawa residents. The booklet can be found here or a physical copy can be picked up at the centre, located at 420 Cooper Street.
According to Natasha Beaudin, a health promoter at CCHC, programming is geared towards the residents of Centretown and their diverse needs. It offers a multitude of services, including those for seniors, recent immigrants, families and the LGBTQ community.
“It’s seeing a need in our community and trying to respond to it,” says Beaudin. “That’s usually what brings our groups about.”
Some examples from the new booklet include:
• Meatless Mondays, a workshop on eating vegetarian once a week
• Accu Detox, an auricular acupuncture clinic to treat addictions
• Make Your Own Baby Food, a workshop that helps parents make nutritious and affordable food for their infants
• Ottawa Senior Pride Network, a group for LGBTQ seniors looking to socialize and give back to the community
• LGBTQ Newcomers Group, for those of various sexualities in the community who are new to Canada
• Ticket Defense and Legal Information Clinic, legal support services for street-involved or homeless people
“If people are looking for some free activities, it’s a great way to do some personal development,” says Beaudin. She explains that the centre’s programming is a way for residents to try something new without taking any financial risk.
Hours and scheduling information for the activities and services can be found in the booklet.
