The City of Ottawa has updated its winter parking restrictions for residents this year.
The updates will allow residents free access to covered city-owned garages overnight while restrictions are in place.
The restrictions on street side parking, which go into place once there are seven centimetres or more of snow on the ground, are in place to allow snow removal crews full access to the roads.
According to the City of Ottawa, the restrictions will prohibit street parking between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. when the ban is in place. During this time, residents can park for free in city-owned garages.
Three of the six garages in the city are located in Centretown. The Centretown locations are at 210 Gloucester St. between Bank Street and Kent Street, 114 Laurier Ave. W. under City Hall, and 170 Second Ave. between Bank Street and Lyon Street.
The updated parking restrictions also include changes to the monthly permit fees. Per-month street parking permit prices will now be less expensive in the summer and more costly in the winter, due to maintenance costs.
