The Bronson Centre, a Centretown community hub and one of Ottawa’s only mid-sized music venues, is gradually making upgrades to the facility — now almost 90 years old — amid some concertgoers’ complaints about the 850-seat performance space.

A Centretown restaurateur wants to bring together Newfoundland and Ontario, the two provinces he calls home, with one bowl of soup.

Claudio Fracassi, the owner of Soup Guy Plus in the World Exchange Plaza’s food court on Albert Street, has vowed that, during this month’s Winterlude festival, he will offer every person who says they are from Newfoundland a free bowl of his signature “Rick Mercer Jiggs Dinner Soup,” inspired by a traditional Newfoundland dish.

Centretown’s early history will come to life this June as Sparks Street gears up to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the arrival of early Ottawa pioneer settler who became the street’s namesake.

Friends of the Rideau expressed their concern about the condition of the canal in a letter in November 2015 stating that “Parks Canada has been subject to major budget cuts in recent years that the organization has been left significantly constrained in its capacity to fulfil its heritage protection, preservations and presentation mandates.”
