Huge puddles like this one on Flora Street are not an unusual site in Ottawa once the warmer weather strikes.Centretown residents can expect more slushy sidewalks and water-filled walkways beginning early next week.
According to Environment Canada, the capital is predicted to warm up significantly over the next week.
The temperature is expected to hit a high of 9C on Tuesday, and is likely to hover around 10C for the rest of the week.
Residents and pedestrians can anticipate more giant puddles and flooded sidewalks, much like those that occurred as a result of warmer temperatures and rainfall two weeks ago.
The record-breaking snowfall in mid-February blocked many of the city’s storm drain systems, including those in Centretown. As the heavy rain came shortly after the snow, huge puddles formed on many streets.
Simone Rivers, a Centretown resident, says that she hopes it will be easier to find and dig out the storm drains next week.
“It was impossible last time because the snow banks were just too big,” says Rivers.
With snow melting into puddles, it’s time to take out those spring rubber boots.
