Canadian Triathlon Championships coming to Ottawa

Some of the country’s top triathletes will be swimming, biking and running their way through the nation’s capital this summer.

Mayor Jim Watson and Triathlon Canada announced today that the Canadian Triathlon Championships are coming to Ottawa this summer and next. The city will host both the 2016 and 2017 Canadian Sprint and Standard Distance Triathlon Championships, as well as the CAMTRI Continental Cup races.

“Triathlon Canada is thrilled to have our national capital hosting our national and regional championships. The spectacle of having our exciting events staged in and around a City of Ottawa backdrop, will be a major coup for the sport of Triathlon, ” wrote Tim Wilson, CEO of Triathlon Canada, on the championship’s website.

The event is set to take place on July 23 and 24, 2016. The swimming portion will be at Dow’s Lake Pavilion, followed by a 20-kilometre bike loop, and will end with the running portion along the Rideau Canal, past Carleton University, and finishing near Hog’s Back Falls.
