Traffic began moving along Bank Street Friday evening as the final phase of construction was completed earlier than scheduled.
The road between Somerset Street and Catherine Street opened to private vehicles and buses at approximately 5 p.m.
The opening of the section of the street, under construction since April, marks the completion of the final phase of Bank Street construction. Traffic will now travel uninterrupted through Centretown.
The city initially decided it would only open parts of the street to some traffic after the evening rush hour. The street was scheduled to open completely Nov. 14 – almost two weeks earlier than contractors predicted.
Buses are now back on their traditional routes and all side streets have been converted back to what they were prior to construction.
While this year's construction is over, a new phase will begin next year along Bank Street through the Glebe.
