The Centretown Laundry Co-op is stringing a virtual clothesline from its current home in the Bronson Centre to its new home in Heartwood House, at Rideau and Chapel streets. Through the Clothesline Campaign, the co-op is reaching out to the Ottawa community for cash and in-kind contributions to help it move to a larger space where it can better serve low-income and vulnerable citizens. A $10 donation represents a one-metre section of the clothesline; however, all donations are appreciated. Corporate sponsorships and in-kind donations of washers and dryers, plumbing, electrical and carpentry services are also welcome. For six years, the Laundry Co-op has provided affordable laundry services to low-income residents of Ottawa. The co-op offers a sense of community and a network of support for its members — many of whom struggle with mental health issues and other limitations. Members can also develop work experience and job skills through the co-op’s contract laundry service to community clients. To donate to the campaign, please contact Marianela Santamaria at 565-4712/ 244-4762, (after Feb. 1), or send a donation to The Laundry Co-op, 153 Chapel Street, Ottawa, ON K1N 1H5.
