Entire Rideau Canal Skateway opens

All 7.8 kilometres of the Rideau Canal Skateway opened for skating this weekend. The National Capital Commission announced on Friday that skaters will be able to access the whole canal as of 8 a.m. on Saturday morning.

An important safety notice states that the width of the Skateway will be reduced in some areas. Skaters are urged to keep alert to the reduced skating area between the Bank Street Bridge and the Bronson Avenue Bridge, and the area between the Mackenzie King Bridge and the Laurier Bridge.

On Thursday, the NCC opened 7 kilometres of the Skateway, while the area between the National Arts Centre and the pedestrian bridge at Somerset Street remained closed.

For information about current ice conditions, the NCC offers 24 hour updates at 613-239-5234 or by visiting www.canadascapital.gc.ca/skateway.
