Doucet running for mayor

After representing Capital Ward for 12 years Clive Doucet filed nomination papers Tuesday to join the
mayoral race.

Doucet announced his candidacy at the foot of the Corktown Bridge, which he says is an example of good urban planning.
He will be joining a crowded race of 13 other would-be mayors, including incumbent Larry O’Brien, for
Ottawa mayor Jim Watson and fellow councillor Alex Cullen.

Doucet says that one of his major concerns is the amount of influence that developers have on city
policy.

"They decide where the development is going to be, how dense it is going to be, no matter how your
council votes," says Doucet on his web site.

He has pledged not to accept donations from developers and acknowledges that it will be hard to run a
mayoral campaign without their significant donations.

Another issue that Doucet says he will address is secrecy at city hall. He says that there are too many
decisions worth millions of dollars that are made behind closed doors.

Before announcing his candidacy, Doucet was rumoured to be considering retirement after the fall
election
