The Gladstone Theatre has been up for sale for a few weeks, according to local media reports.
Steve Martin, owner of the theatre located on Gladstone Avenue just off Preston Street, since 2008, told the Ottawa Citizen that the financial burden of the theatre has become too much.
Martin, who also owns the franchise Arthur Murray Dance Studios, had to put in money from his other business for the theatre to run. According to the Ottawa Sun, the venue has not yet turned a profit.
The Gladstone is the former home of the Great Canadian Theatre Company and is listed for sale at $1.5 million, which would be enough for Martin to break even. It's still not too late to change the decision to sell, Martin told the Citizen, but this would only be an option if the next three shows are sold out completely.
