Six candidates will be seeking election in Ottawa Centre on Oct. 14
Two late candidates, Marxist-Leninist Pierre Soublière and Marijuana Party John Akpata join Liberal Penny Collenette, Conservative Brian McGarry, Green Jen Hunter and incumbent New Democrat Paul Dewar.
Akpata is a freelance journalist, musician and spoken word artist. His concerns include attracting youth participation in the political process and decriminalizing cannabis. In 2006, he garnered 386 votes in Ottawa Centre. This will be his third time running in a federal election. He competed for the seat in the Ottawa South riding in 2004.
Soublière has running experience in the Hull-Aylmer district in four general elections. He last ran in 1997, attracting 151 votes. He is a teacher and contributor to The Marxist-Leninist Daily newspaper.
