Bail granted for two charged in Booth Street shooting

Two people charged in the fatal shooting on Booth Street last year were granted bail Wednesday.

Khaled Wehbe, 19, and Zakaria Dourhnou, 18, are charged with being accessories to the murder of 16-year-old Yazdan Ghiasi on Dec 6.

In the hearing they were deemed to not be a risk to society by Justice Douglas Rutherford, who said denying bail should always be an exception.

Justice Rutherford said both accused do not pose a flight risk as long as they hand over any travel documents they possess.

Both Wehbe and Dourhnou have been in custody since December.

Under the conditions of their bail, both of the accused must live with their parents, Dourhnou in Gatineau and Wehbe in southern Ottawa.

They cannot leave their homes between midnight and 7 a.m. and cannot leave Ottawa-Gatineau.

Neither can leave their respective houses except to attend school, work, religious gatherings, medical or dental appointments or court appearances. Any other activity must be supervised by one of their sureties, appointed by the court.

Wehbe and Dourhnou are not allowed to have contact with each other, their associates or anyone that could be a witness in the case. They must also stay away from drugs, alcohol and aren't allowed to possess a cellphone.

Peter Koury, Dourhnou's mother's boyfriend, must pay $50,000 before Dourhnou can be released. Currently Koury is visiting family in Lebanon.

Their next scheduled court appearance is Feb. 1.
