The city is inviting proposals for the implementation of free wi-fi service in various city buildings, according to Beacon Hill-Cyrville Coun. Tim Tierney.
Tierney, who chairs city council’s sub-committee on information and technology, said that councillors have identified 25 municipal facilities with high traffic and a need for wi-fi services.
“No city funding will go into this,” Tierney said, adding that he hopes service providers can come up with a suitable plan that would include a partnership with the city.
He said the winning firm is welcome to use the partnership as a method for advertising or exposure as the city’s exclusive wi-fi provider.
“We’re actually hoping to generate some revenue from it,” he said.
