The Canadian Museum of Nature has announced that beginning this April it will raise admission prices by 50 cents.
The first increase will come into effect on April 1. General admission prices for adults will increase to $12.50 plus tax, admission for students and seniors will bump up to $10.50, and the cost for children aged three to 12 will increase to $8.50.
“It corresponds with rising costs,” said John Swettenham, the museum’s interim vice-president of experience and engagement and director of marketing and media relations.
“It seems that to have a smaller inflationary type increase on a regular basis is better than having a sporadic large increase,” said Swettenham.
The Museum of Nature, which has about 375,000 visitors every year, is now the first museum in the region to adjust its fees annually. By April 1, 2016, admission will cost $1.50 more than today.
“We offer really good value for our visitors so we think that having a 50 cent increase and a regular anticipated increase is something that probably works better for our visitor clientele,” Swettenham said.
On average, the admission fees for adults at national museums in Ottawa are between $10 and $13.
