Man faces charges for impersonating public officer

Ottawa Police have charged Franck Gervais for portraying himself as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces during last week’s Remembrance Day ceremony held at the National War Memorial.

The 32-year-old from Cantley, Que. has been charged with one count of personating a public officer, one count of personating a public officer with misleading use of badge and uniform, one count of unlawful use of military uniform and one count of unlawful use of military decoration, according to a police press release yesterday.

The charges come after public outcry identified Gervais, who was dressed as a decorated member of Canada’s Armed forces and interviewed by CBC at the ceremony, as an imposter.

Gervais, who according to media reports has been receiving death threats, met with police at their Elgin Street headquarters on Nov. 15 where he was arrested, charged and released.

Police say an investigation is ongoing and Gervais is expected to appear in court on Dec. 9.
