Ottawa Police announced it spent around $250,000 on overtime pay during the day of the downtown shooting that killed Canadian Forces reservist Cpl. Nathan Cirillo and wounded a security officer on Parliament Hill, and during the weeks of increased security measures afterwards, reported CFRA.
Police worked additional hours on Oct. 22 and off-duty officers were called in to help lock down parts of the downtown core after the shooting, reported the Ottawa Sun.
There was also a high security presence at this year’s Remembrance Day ceremonies at the War Memorial, where Cirillo was shot and killed.
The police projected a deficit of $2.6 million in this year’s overtime budget, the Ottawa Sun reported.
Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau is expected to give the financial status report for the third quarter of 2014 to the city on Monday.
