The upcoming sixth “Fight Night” at the Beaver Boxing Club will help showcase talent from Ottawa and help the Centretown-based club support its Youth Boxing Program.
The club’s president, Jill Perry, says the fight nights are important because they are a chance for the boxers to fight locally and in front of their friends and families.
Perry says because most boxing tournaments happen near Toronto, there’s less opportunity for area boxers to show their stuff in front of family and friends.
Perry adds that the fight nights are really good for boxing in the Eastern Ontario region because the club will pull boxers from other clubs and other regions, including parts of Quebec, as well as Kingston and Sudbury, for example.
“And so it’s just good too for boxing, to have it shown here in the city so people can say ‘oh, that’s boxing, oh, that’s interesting’ and maybe it’ll generate more interest in the club,” Perry says.
Perry says the club is trying to generate four shows a year.
