There is still no plan set in stone for LeBreton Flats, but NDP incumbent Paul Dewar says he wants affordable housing included in the development of the area.
“Ever since I was first elected in 2006, I’ve been clear that affordable housing – and I mean truly affordable for poor families – must be part of any redevelopment of LeBreton Flats,” Dewar said in a press release.
Dewar said if re-elected, he would demand that federal approval of the project be contingent on inclusion of affordable housing.
According to the National Capital Commission, LeBreton Flats is Ottawa’s last and largest undeveloped urban property.
“We envisage a bold, new anchor institution that will welcome the public, serve as an economic driver, [and] feature innovative use of the land,” said the NCC website of LeBreton Flats.
