Man charged after series of fires at Centretown apartment complex

A 67-year-old man was charged in relation to a series of fires in an apartment building at 280 Rochester St. earlier this week.

Arson was suspected after eight fires were set in the garbage chutes of the Centretown apartment complex.

Residents of the complex, especially those who need extra assistance to get out of the building, were worried that someone would get seriously injured.

On Friday afternoon, the Ottawa police arson unit tweeted that, with the help of Ottawa Community Housing and Ottawa Fire Services, a man was charged with a single count of arson causing damage to property.

No further details are available at the moment.
