An RCMP officer died in hospital after he was found shot in a downtown building early this morning.
Emergency services were called to 33 Metcalfe St. for a medical emergency at 8:55 a.m. Thursday morning.
The first responders found the officer after he had shot himself inside the building.
CBC reports that “the officer was a member of the general duty protective policing unit, according to the RCMP’s Gilles Michaud, commanding officer of the national division.”

‘Medical emergency’ closes streets near Centretown
Ottawa police closed parts of Metcalfe Street near Queen Street around 9 a.m. Thursday morning due to a “medical emergency.”
The Ottawa Sun reported that “an RCMP officer has shot himself inside his office at the scene,” according to an unnamed source. There are no further details at the moment.
“There is no danger to the public and we are not looking for a suspect,” says Ottawa Police Const. Marc Soucy.
