The Canadian War Museum congratulated an Ottawa citizen and significant player at the museum for her induction into the Order of Canada in a recent press release.
Laura Brandon was recognized for her work as Canada’s leading authority on war art at Rideau Hall on Sept. 23.
Brandon joined the Canadian War Museum in 1992 as a historian on art and war. She retired from the museum in 2015, but curated close to 40 exhibitions during her time there.
“Laura Brandon’s body of work has been instrumental in shaping Canadians’ perceptions of war through art and artistic interpretation,” said Stephen Quick, Director General of the Canadian War Museum.
“The exhibitions and publications she worked on while at the War Museum offered a compelling perspective of the realities of conflict and the human condition.”
Brandon is also an award-winning author whose notable works include Pegi By Herself: The Life of Pegi Nicol MacLeod, Canadian Artist and Art and War. She continues to work in the field of war art.
The Order of Canada was created in 1967 to recognize outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. More than 6,000 Canadians have been invested into the Order.
