The first snowfall has come and gone and December has finally arrived. Many of us Christmas diehards have anxiously awaited this moment since the ball dropped last January. Can you believe the year went by so fast?

Some thoughts on your Nov. 22 issue:
Item 1. “Comment” page 4. I started biking again seriously at age 51 after my car was wrecked. That was in 1985. I have not replaced the car — I bike year round and I deplore those cyclists who drive as if they owned not only the road but the sidewalks as well. I support any action the police see fit to take – in fact I would like to see more action on their part.
Volunteer plan needs work
The provincial government’s experiment to produce more civic-minded youth through 40 hours of mandatory volunteer work is a step in the right direction. It’s unfortunate that the step is small and unstructured and will likely result in some students not being granted diplomas.

The Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre announced it will be closing its wildlife rehabilitation centre and telephone hotline service at the end of December, following a four-month feud with the Ministry of Natural Resources.
