It’s time to question our stereotypes
A 15-year-old Muslim boy was beaten in Ottawa when a group of teens blamed Arabs for September’s terrorist attacks in the United States. Assaults, death threats, egg throwing, vandalism, and graffiti increased.

mclennan article ‘misleading’
I find your writer’s portrait of rob mclennan (Oct. 12 ) strangely lacking — if not misleading.
rob mclennan has done a great deal to anger and upset some writers and observers in Ottawa’s literary scene and beyond. All you had to do was either talk to people at the TREE Reading Series (which mclennan still frequents, though his involvement as an organizer ended in 1994) or dig back through some local newspapers.
A waste of time and money
Bar owners should stop slamming their heads against the wall and give up their challenge of the new smoking bylaw. It’s too expensive to fight and unlikely to be overturned after withstanding one court challenge earlier this year.
