Despite earlier reports, the National Capital Commission says the former U.S. embassy will stay where it is and Metcalfe Street is not going to become a 90-metre wide promenade in front of Parliament Hill.
“We’re not moving the old U.S. embassy,” says Diane Dupuis, a spokesperson for the NCC.

Just when we thought the National Capital Commission’s idea of creating a grand boulevard leading up to Parliament Hill by widening Metcalfe Street was dead, someone removed the “do not resuscitate” order.
Last February the NCC dropped its outlandish plan after vehement objection from concerned businesses, municipal politicians and urban planners. But it appears the NCC hasn’t forgotten the idea.

A local trading group is considering introducing a paper form of their community currency to boost membership and trading.
In the Ottawa Local Employment and Trading System (LETS), based in Centretown, members can trade and receive basic goods and services without paying in Canadian dollars.
