Rita Carter performs at the Artistic Showcase at Pressed Café. The Artistic Showcase series in west Centretown has become a regular gathering place for a diverse range of performers in Ottawa with a passion for art.
Brandon Wint, 25, is the creator of the showcase. It occurs monthly at Pressed on Gladstone Avenue, with the most recent one held Oct. 4. The next event is scheduled for late November.

Marking the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Alliance Française is hosting the photography exhibit Walls Between Peoples.Like jagged scars, walls sever the landscape in each photograph.Each wall is different: mortar and brick, barbed wire and chain link, metal and concrete.

"Ashes: A City Shaped by Fire" tells the history of Ottawa's fires through artifacts, films and pictures. The City of Ottawa Archives is hosting an exhibit on how massive, neighbourhood-wide conflagrations – such as the Great Fire of 1900 that tore across LeBreton Flats and other parts of downtown Ottawa – have shaped the city’s history and development.
Art, when performed, often evokes images of opera, Shakespeare, and the symphony. But many of Ottawa’s performers prefer to take the stage with just a microphone and a story.
