Ottawa businesses have given up fighting for compensation for financial losses suffered during the G-20 Summit held in Ottawa more than a year ago.
Picture this: the City of Ottawa decides to help out one of Ottawa’s most renowned festivals by offering a bailout loan of $300,000. Other organizers of equally cash strapped events inquire about perhaps receiving similar help for their own fledging festivals. The mayor of Ottawa calls this request “out of line and out of place.”
Mild temperatures and wet conditions may have created havoc for last year’s Winterlude festival. This year local businesses are hopeful the cold weather and good canal conditions will bring more people to the city.
Ottawa’s recent cold snap has meant increases in sales for some local businesses, but has left others with a decline in customers and dreams of the spring.
