Ashcroft Homes is headed for a major showdown with members of the Centretown community over plans to put up a 15-storey tower in the middle of a heritage neighbourhood.

The Lieutenant’s Pump has been a staple of Elgin Street nightlife for 16 years, and assistant manager Anna Maynard says she’s surprised by the community’s sudden uproar about late-night noise.

Residents of the Elgin Street area are teaming up with police to crack down on noisy bar and restaurant patrons who leave garbage in the streets, park illegally and blast music from their cars into the early hours of the morning.

Peeling paint, gouged ceilings and bulging walls are not what one usually associates with a school. But they are just a few problems plaguing St. Anthony elementary school.
