Soon the circus will be in town and with it comes the cruel exploitation of animals for the raw sake of profit.

Animals used in circuses live a dismal life of domination, confinement and violent training. Bears, elephants, horses and the like do not naturally ride bicycles, stand on their heads, balance on balls, or jump through rings of fire. read more

Children must learn to respect their bodies

How will our children learn to adopt life-giving habits, to make life-sustaining decisions if they have no respect for their bodies?

Children must be taught the effects of junk food on their bodies along with the Canada Food Guide. Sugar has addictive qualities. It does cause imbalances. It is difficult to want vegetables after sugar. When it is consumed before protein, it is damaging to some people. read more

Holmes’s proposal ‘unreasonable’

Diane Holmes suggestion to ban plastic bags is completely unreasonable.

There are many products that we purchase that are just too heavy or awkward to carry in a paper bag.

An example is a bag of milk. You would have to double or triple the bags in order to carry the weight. That in itself is a waste. read more

Abortions take emotional toll

I am responding to your article “Inside the Morgentaler Clinic” by Sarah Mayes (Dec. 5 ).

In the article, Joan Wright, the clinic manager, explains the complications of an abortion, as “rare” and the pain comparable to “menstrual like cramps”. Apart from the physical pain that my girlfriend went through, the emotional pain, which we never anticipated, was devastating to both of us. read more
