Twelve-year-old organizes fashion show for sick children

While most pre-teens are out playing in the snow and planning their weekends, Kate Reeve is on the phone looking for a volunteer makeup artist, emailing designers and tacking up posters. A local drop-in centre will receive a helping hand from 15 Carleton University students during the school’s reading week, part of a volunteer project aimed at sensitizing the students to the challenges of delivering social services in the city.
Finding a place to rent in Centretown will become more difficult this year, as experts predict vacancy rates across the city will continue to decline.
A new report by the City of Ottawa shows that 23 vacant lots in the downtown core could be used to accommodate new office buildings.
