For Ruth Cooper and many other parents, the fight to keep special classes for gifted students in Ottawa is far from over.
A parent of two sons in the gifted program at McNabb Park School, Cooper will try to push the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board for more room in classes designed for gifted children.
The National Arts Centre may have found a couple of four-leaf clovers with the end of its orchestra’s labour strike and the beginning of talks between representatives of the NAC board and the House of Commons heritage committee.
The Crown corporation has seen some bad luck over the past couple of months — the centre’s director and chief executive officer of the past two years, John Cripton, left the NAC in early October, and in November, its orchestra went on strike.
Sparks Street Mall to fight wrongful dismissal
The Sparks Street Mall Management Board intends to fight the wrongful dismissal suit filed against it by its former boss.
In documents filed with the Ontario Court, General Division, the board has said it had just cause to terminate Kenneth Dale’s employment and says that no assurances were made to extend Dale’s contract.
The board has asked the court to dismiss Dale’s suit with legal costs.
The Salvation Army Toy Centre will once again make thousands of little faces smile this Christmas.
The Toy Centre started distributing toys Nov. 23. Parents were already lined up on the stairs and out the door into the parking lot at 9 a.m. when it opened. They were waiting to register in order to pick out new toys for their children.
