In light of the recent referendum, where two-thirds of voting Carleton University students rejected a $11.31 increase in tuition to support athletics, it would seem that one could kiss a good number of varsity sports goodbye.
The referendum held Feb. 9 and 10, asked students if they would support a levy to help maintain the status of certain varsity sports at Carleton. The endorsement of this hike would have provided an added $155,000 for athletics next year.
The issue: The Carleton Ravens football team may be gone for good, as the university’s director of athletic services recommended it be axed.
What’s new: Former Raven football players are developing a counter-proposal to keep the team on the field.
What it means: Ottawa could be left with one prominent football team – the Ottawa Gee-Gees.

That’s how Ottawa skip John Morris sees his team’s quest to repeat as the world junior curling champions.
Morris and teammates, based out of the Ottawa Curling Club, won the provincial championship on Jan. 10 and are now gearing up for the national championships in Kelowna, B.C., Feb. 6- 14.
The untimely end of Ottawa’s first competitive amateur baseball team has set off a debate over the level of talented young baseball players in the region.
According to team officials, various factors led to the decision in mid-November to fold the Ottawa Nationals.
