Ottawa residents and tourists don’t usually cast a second glance at the East Block of Parliament Hill. Their attention dwells on the more famous Centre Block, home of the Peace Tower, and the country’s main political arena. But the East Block has history and a place in Canadian heritage. Even though it was once threatened with demolition, it still stands tall after 140 years.
At the corner of Cooper and O’Connor streets stands one of Centretown’s largest churches, Dominion-Chalmers United Church.
Tucked away inside the grand 12-storey atrium of the National Bank of Canada building, at 244 Rideau St., the Canadian Currency Museum’s small size doesn’t detract from its unique visual presence.
Ottawa's courthouse is an interesting feature of Centretown, a place where events that are all in a day's work for some meet extraordinary happenings in the lives of others.
