When Sir Walter Scott published his first work of fiction in 1814, the success of the book gave the Scottish novelist and poet the beginnings of an international following that at the time had never been seen.

Stretched out in the afternoon shade of a giant black walnut tree, in the Golden Triangle section of Centretown, is a tiny street named Hartington Place.

Wellington Street, home to Parliament Hill, is named for Arthur Wellesly (1769-1852), the first Duke of Wellington, who led the allied forces that defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo, on June 18, 1815.

Many streets in Ottawa, particularly in Centretown, are named for early Ottawans. Bell Street is no exception.
